This vessel from Burkina Faso is terra cotta is covered with organically arranged pinched spikes, colored with a permanent black pigment.
Mid-20th Century
Most spikes are intact though the vessel shows some signs of age and use.
The widest point of the vessel is missing some spikes but given the black color of the area, this most likely occurred during it’s firing.
